On Thursday 14th July, the Shredlands Cup was held at Merritts Terrain Park in Thredbo Resort. Slopestyle has continued to grow in popularity over the past few years through events such as X-Games and it’s inclusion in the Olympics. This year, for the first time, it is also involved with Interschools competition for Division 1 and 2. It has been pleasing to see an industry evolve to its surrounding environment and Slopestyle is one such case of a continually developing sector within the Snowsports industry.
This year the set-up for Shredlands included two down gib options, two jumps and finally two flat gib options.
Results are as follows:
Steph Peterson (Year 8) 1st
Isabelle Beaton (Year 10) 2nd
Charles Beaton (Year 9) 2nd
Tom Davis (Year 11) 3rd
Special Mention to Toby Peterson (Year 9) who also grabbed a fifth position in the hotly contested Male Snowboard division.
Phillippe Lahey, Thredbo Marketing Event Manager had this to say “Shredlands is a great grassroots event, introducing school ages to freestyle through a competitive slopestyle event. Thredbo has partnered with Redlands for a number of years now making Shredlands a staple on the winter calendar. It’s exciting that this year, NSW Interschool’s are finally introducing slopestyle at a state level. This is paving the future of Australia freestyle skiing”.
Well done to these SMGS students who have demonstrated some significant talent in the freestyle scene. I look forward to seeing how you progress over this season and the seasons to come. A big thank you to Redlands for their efforts in regards to both Shredlands and Redlands Cup. SMGS is proud of it’s long standing history and relationship with Redlands and we look forward to continuing this into the future.
