This is the second year that students from SMGS Equestrian Program have competed at the Interschools Horse Extravaganza (ISHE) in Tamworth, the equine capital of Australia. The facilities are of an international standard, and the students are loving the chance to compete at the highest level of School Equestrian events.
With nine competitors representing the school, the team is excited, and the horses are ready and raring to go. With the level of competition and prestige of the event, there is an air of expectation and excitement everywhere.
Greeted with very hot weather, athletes are enjoying the sunshine; everyone was in great spirits and ready for the start of the event.
Today’s events focused on Working Utility Horse and Sporting events. The stock and quarter horses ruled the day. It was a fantastic start to a huge four days, and all riders had the opportunity to test their horses against the best in the State.
Events involved Working Horse Hack presentation, Working Horse Patterns and Time trial events. SMGS best results came from Cassandra Nichols on Emmavale Gwendolyn, posting a 7th and 10th in Hack and Working patterns and Daniel Ternes- Dixon on Snow Mountains Lychee.
The sporting events comprised the rest of the day, from bending to barrels, pony twist to scudahoe. The final two events were the mug race and polocrosse. Mackenzie Harding and Daniel Ternes flew the SMGS flag here. Sporting event results will be posted tomorrow.
SMGS had a great first day, with riders settling their nerves and horses getting used to the new surroundings.
Of her experience at the event so far, year four student, Abbey Wilson said “I loved riding my new pony Beau in the amazing facilities with my friends. I was nervous in the beginning, but everyone made me feel that it was ok, and Beau and I had the best day. With each event, we just go better.”
Year 4 student, Cassandra Nichol echoed Abbey’s sentiment on the start of the event; she said, “Riding in the main Arena at AELEC was incredible. It is such an amazing arena, and Gwen and I did great!”.
