The North West Equestrian Expo, an extensive interschools event held at Coonabarabran each year, was for our SMGS Equestrian team an amazing success in every way.  We have attended this event for the past ten years and the results achieved this year were better than ever before.  This level of performance was to a large extent due to the work that the riders and the instructors have been putting in to training this year.  The 2017 North West Equestrian Expo team members were: Lara Fairfield-Smith, Jess Dickson, Mackenzie Harding, Danny Ternes-Dixon, Zani Fairfield-Smith, Emily Quodling and Charlotte Wilson.

We did see some great performances from our riders at SMIEC in April and they were able to use this experience and develop it further to achieve well beyond anything they have done to date.   The Expo is a very busy event with a great deal going on each day and the areas for competition are quite spread, so one walks miles in a day!!!

This year Snowy Mountains Grammar School made a significant impact and, at each of the presentations, we were not only amongst the ribbon-winners but we also won a major award each time – attracting significant comments from many of the other competing schools who mostly had much bigger teams than us.  It was also a great team exercise for our riders.  We had two horses with minor injuries that required treatment and one of the parents injured her ankle, so this meant many changes to plans and some extra duties for most.

The team camps together at the ground and this worked very well – we were disciplined, organised, and our riders looked well dressed and prepared at all times.

The full results were as follows: C-Grade One Day Event – Jess Dickson 6th, Mackenzie Harding 6th; D-Grade One Day Event – Charlotte Wilson Champion, Danny Ternes-Dixon Champion, Zani Fairfield-Smith 2nd; Preliminary Dressage – Charlotte Wilson 9th and 10th, Zani Fairfield-Smith 1st, 4th and Reserve Champion; Warrambungle Way – Danny Ternes-Dixon Champion 13 years; Showjumping – Lara Fairfield-Smith 2nd, 5th Reserve Champion 16 and 17 years, Mackenzie Harding 1st, 4th Reserve Champion 12 and 13 years; Pentathlon Open event – Mackenzie Harding 3rd, 1st, 4th, 5th and 3rd overall; 6-Bar Teams competition – Jess, Lara and Mackenzie 4th overall; Hacking – Pair of Riders Emily Quodling and Jess Dickson 3rd, Pony Hack Charlotte Wilson 4th

Novelties: Bending Race – Mackenzie Harding 4th, Daniel Ternes-Dixon 5th; Time Trial – Daniel Ternes-Dixon 4th.

Overall: Overall Runner Up Age Champion 13 Year old boy – Daniel Ternes-Dixon.

Congratulations to the coaches, riders, parents and supporters on a most successful team effort for 2017.
