It was cold and blustery day on hill today with another huge performance from team SMGS. While our Senior School students hit the SkierX course, our Junior School students hit mountain for the first time with both the Moguls and the Alpine, topping off the day with our youngest competitors, the Division 6 alpine team.
While the wind wasn’t as strong as we’ve seen at previous events, the chill-factor meant that conditions weren’t always ideal.
Division 4 Mogul competitor, Aiden Moore, thought the Moguls course was in great condition: “The course was very good but on some turns there were little bumps that made our skies bounce across some of the bumps.“.
Over on the Alpine course, the cold temperatures ensured that the what little softer snow was left on course was soon pushed aside, resulting in some tough conditions as the day went on. This didn’t dampen the mood of our littlest competitors who not only put in some great performances but had a great time doing it. Division 6 competitor and Year 1 student, Angelina Burridge had a great time competing at her first Interschools competition: “It was good. A little scary but lots of fun. The snow was hard and fast.“.
Back in Centre Valley on the SkierX course, our Senior School competitors were presented with great conditions for racing and our skiers didn’t waste the conditions, with SMGS teams taking gold medals in every SkierX event today and another 10 individual medals.
Overall, it was another successful day on the mountain, with a total of 30 medals across all events.
To top off the day, Australian Olympic Silver Medallist, Matt Graham was a special guest at today’s presentation, presenting our podium winners with their medals.
