It was a cold and windy start to the 2018 NSW State Interschools Snowsports Championships at Thredbo.

What was looking like a beautiful morning quickly disappeared as the wind started gusting and blowing snow across the resort.

Today saw our Junior School athletes taking on the mountain in Moguls (Division 4), Alpine (Division 6) and SnowboardX (Division 4 & 5).

Our division 4 boys kicked off the moguls on Bump Run but the wind-blown snow made the course slow uneven, making it difficult to put together a clean run while wind gusts made it difficult to execute clean tricks of the jump.

The conditions improved heading into the girls competition but regular wind gusts ensured that the girls had to use all their experience to put down some clean runs, finishing the day in 3rd place.

The division 6 boys and girls lined up on the extended Nastar course for the Alpine competition. The gusty conditions weren’t ideal with a number of runners failing to navigate the course successfully during the early runs.

Over on the High Noon Ridercross course, our Division 4 girls, Abbey Wilson, Ally Quinn and Samantha Stynes-Garratty continued their great form to take top step of the podium and secure their place at Australian championship in two weeks.

Tomorrow sees the actions split across the mountain with the Slopestyle events in Thredbo while our Cross-Country team head up to the Perisher Trails for the NSW & ACT Interschools Cross Country Championships.

Good luck to all our athletes on the hill tomorrow and Go Team SMGS!
