Yesterday’s tropical weather was quickly replaced with cloud, fog and that dreaded “R” word that combined with the warm temperatures to produce some very soft snow conditions for day 2 of competition.
Today saw action across the resort with SkierX (Division 4 & 6) and SnowboardX (Division 5) on Centre Valley, Alpine (Division 5) on Front Valley, Alpine (Division 3) in Guthega on Mother In Law, SnowboardX (Division 2 & 3) on Sun Valley and Moguls (Division 4) over on Mogul Matt’s in Blue Cow.
Our division 4 girls continued their form on the skis 1st place in the SkierX while Cassandra Nicholls backed up yesterday’s individual gold in the Alpine with another gold in the SkierX. Fastest division 4 female skier in the country across both disciplines.
Over on Sun Valley, our SnowboardX athletes added to the medal tally with Jessica Dickson taking the top step and Lucas Gordon winning a silver in the division 2 races.
Our division 4 boys and girls hit Blue Cow for the Moguls competition on the newly named, Mogul Matts. The extremely soft snow and poor visibility required competitors to drop some speed and focus on clean turns with many competitors stumbling during the competition but this didn’t bother out girls, coming away with the solid 3rd place.
It’s been an amazing opening two days of competition with a big shout out to our Junior School athletes. Despite being one of the smallest Junior Schools in the competition, relative to our main rivals, we’ve once again punched well above our weight, coming away with 6 gold and 5 bronze medals.
The weather should improve slightly for day 3 of competition but the warm temperatures will ensure that it’s another slow day on the mountain. Good luck to everyone and Go Team SMGS!
