It was a wet start to the 3rd day of competition in Perisher with the action split between the main resort and the Cross Country trails. Today was one of those mornings when coffee and hot chocolate looks like the best option for the day.
Over on the Cross Country trails, an early morning crust soon turned to slush as the sun began to break through and left competitors with a very slow, difficult course for the Freestyle events. With creeks beginning to appear around the course, Declan Burke made the most of the soft conditions and a solid race strategy to cross the line 1st in the Division 1 Freestyle event. The boys backed it up in the relay with a solid 2nd place followed by our division 2 girls who also secured 2nd place in the relay.
Persistent rain and warm temperatures saw the Slopestyle events moved from Blue Cow to the Yabby Flat park but the clouds soon dispersed, paving the way for an epic day of competition.
Our athletes shone under the sun with Isabelle and Charles Beaton keeping it in the family by taking the top step of the podium in both division 1 ski events. Led by Jamie Mawkes, our Snowboard girls ensured that the medals continued to flow with a clean sweep of the podium in division 1.
Across the slopes on Front Valley, our division 4 and 5 Snowboard GS competitors took to the Front Valley dual course under blue skies and sunshine. Despite the warm temperatures, the course held up well, albeit slow. Our division 4 girls continued their complete domination of the Snowboard events with another 1st place, including an individual 1st place for Abbey Wilson.
The action continues tomorrow with Moguls (Division 1 & 2) in Blue Cow on Mogul Matt’s and SkierX (Division 1 & 3) on Sun Valley while Alpine (Division 2) and Snowboard GS (Division 2) have been moved from Mother In Law to the Hyper Trail. Good luck to everyone and Go Team SMGS!
