A fantastic day for 8 local students (4 SMGS and 4 JCS) who had the opportunity to participate in the Lions Youth of the Year event today.

There are three sections to the competition – a 20-minute interview with a panel of 3 judges; a 4 minute prepared speech and two short impromptu speeches responding to questions on current world events.

The SMGS participants: Jorja Box, Nick-Kargas , Willem Baldwinson and Eve Donnelly gained valuable public speaking and confidence boosting experience by being involved.

Two awards were given at the end of the day: The Public Speaking award and the Overall Competition award.

At the end of the competition, SMGS student, Willem Baldwinson was presented with the Public Speaking award and Eve Donnelly was announced as the Overall Competition winner.

Our thanks to local Lions Jindabyne for providing this opportunity and organizing and providing lunch for the students.

Eve will now goes on to the next ‘level’ in Cooma in the coming week where she will go through a similar round of interview and speeches.
