K/1 explore 3D shapes through building their own robots!
As part of our Mathematics unit on 3D shapes, K/1 explored the attributes and properties of prisms (cardboard boxes), whilst building their own amazing robots! Students gave oral descriptions of their robot’s ability and even named them as Lullaby Singing Robot, Cat Feeding Robot, Cookie Making Robot and Cleaning Robot. This hands on activity developed students’ knowledge and mathematical language used in the strand of Space and Geometry such as ‘stacking’, ‘pointy corners’, ‘box like shapes’. Manipulation of a variety of real objects and shapes is crucial to the development of imagery, language and representation.
