Overview of the Superstars of STEM Program:

“Superstars of STEM aims to smash society’s gender assumptions about scientists and increase the public visibility of women in STEM.  Science and Technology Australia started Superstars of STEM to create a critical mass of celebrity Australian female scientists and technologists – role models for young women and girls – and to work towards equal representation in the media of women and men working in all fields in STEM.”

What to expect on the evening:

Dr Capra will be talking about the work she does in the field of hypersonics – which, she explains, is very very fast flight. She will outline what she did to get to this point.

The points of discussion that Dr Capra will be talking to the girls about:

  • From School to University : Setting myself up for a STEM degree
  • Training to be an Aerospace Engineer : What I learned in University
  • Fast and hot : the challenges and excitement of flying at hypersonic speeds (presentation of some of the work I have done, and am doing now)
  • Training the future : What’s available to you now and how to be involved
