Over the break, our staff, with feedback from our students, re-imagined the activities program for Term 2. These activities were selected taking into consideration the overarching principals of our Virtual Campus of continuity, curriculum content and connections.

Many of these activities promote movement, connection with peers, spending time in nature, service-learning, creativity, innovation and inquiry and, above all else, they get students away from their devices and decrease screen time.

Students had the opportunity to pick two activities for the Monday and Wednesday sessions. Each activity is run and supported by a staff member, with all details loaded onto a Canvas page.

The activities across the school include:

Kindergarten to Year 4:

Lego Masters – weekly build challenges where points are allocated for the ultimate prize of taking home the “Golden Brick”.

SMGS Cookbook – K-4 students will have the opportunity to participate in the creation of an SMGS Cookbook, a recipe book for our community. Students will create, cook and provide a method, with photos of their creations, for inclusion in the SMGS Cookbook.

Years 5 – 12:

  • Monday Bright Sparks – English focus
  • Wednesday Bright Sparks – Mathematics focus
  • Short-Film Festival
  • Pilates/Yoga
  • 10,000 Steps
  • SMGS Lego Masters
  • Knitting Club
  • Virtual Chess Club
  • Mountain Bike Club
  • Bottle Rocket Challenge
  • SMGS Run Club
  • SMGS Cookbook
  • Workouts of the Week
  • Equestrian Group
  • Trickshot Video Competition
  • Environment Committee.

In Term 2, we have also ensured that there are a number of whole-school activities.

Over the coming days, details will be made available for the exciting plans around our first ever virtual House Carnival and virtual Cre8ive Sessions.

While it has without a doubt been a challenging time for schools and families across Australia, we are so thankful to our amazing staff who have quickly adapted to continue to create exceptional learning experiences for our students.
