Every year primary students from around the region have the opportunity to enter their wonderful artistic creations into the Upper Snowy Landcare Calendar Artwork Competition. This year’s theme was animals in the hollows, focusing on the animals returning to the bush after the bushfires earlier this year.
Guided by SMGS specialist Visual Arts teacher, Ms Katie Witherdin, the Year 6 students have been working on Owls, some working in a realistic style and others choosing to use a more stylised approach. Allowing students to make choices about their work is integral in developing their skills as artists. We are continually developing their understanding that for art to be a great creation does not mean that it needs to be like everyone else’s.
