The NSW Premier’s Reading Challenge: SMGS Medal Winner
The NSW Premier’s Reading Challenge aims to foster a passion for reading for pleasure in Kindergarten to Year 9 Students in NSW government, independent, Catholic and home schools.
Students must finish reading between 20 and 30 books, depending on their age, to complete the challenge each year.
Certificates are awarded on successful completion of the Challenge each year.
To receive a Premier’s Reading Challenge Medal a student must have completed the challenge every year from Year 3 to Year 9. Many who receive the medal, including the 2020 SMGS recipient Jimmy Batson, actually completed the challenge from Kindergarten to Year 9. This equates to having read 230 books!
755 students have been awarded NSW Premier’s Reading Challenge Medals in 2020.
To give a perspective on the level of Jimmy’s effort, over 300,000 students from over 2500 schools across NSW participated in the challenge in 2019. (2020 overall data is not yet available)
Congratulations Jimmy on an outstanding effort over many years!
For those interested in the 2021 Challenge, reading begins on March 1 and closes on August 27, 2021.
