2021 Cross Country Running Carnival

On Thursday, 1 April 2021, our Kindergarten to Year 12 students headed out to the Station Resort for our annual Cross-Country Carnival.

This year’s carnival was made extra special as our entire school community was able to welcome parents and family members to the event to spectate. The feeling of community was palpable, with each and every spectator cheering that extra bit more loudly. Team cameraderie and sportsmanship, while always a hallmark of our students, was exceptionally displayed and out in full force today.

With house points on the line, it was all house members on deck vying for the coveted house shield. In the ten years of the event, only two houses have taken home the trophy, Mowamba and Cascades. Would this year be the year for Twynam or Kiandra to take home the shield?

Of this year’s event, SMGS Director of Sport, Martin Philpott, said, “A great day was had by all. It was pleasing to see each and every student run to their personal best and beyond. My thanks to all the staff who helped to ensure today’s event was run in a safe and fun way. Thank you also to all the parents and carers who came to cheer the students on today. I think I speak for everyone at the event when I say it was wonderful to have you all here.”

So which house did take home this year’s cross-country running shield?

Cascades with 589 points squeezed past Kiandra with 564 points at the finish line to claim its second carnival shield of the year. Twynam with 556 points and Mowamba with 489 points were third and fourth respectively.
