SMGS, in association with Sian A’Hern Coaching, is excited to hold two new clinics focusing on our female riders. At SMGS we want to provide students with opportunities to build their riding confidence and ability in a safe, supportive and positive environment. To help, Sian draws on her own experience and challenges on the race circuit to encourage and inspire girls to progress their bike skills with confidence. Sian will be offering:
Development/Intermediate Clinic (26 and 27 February): Girls in the Development Clinic will come away with fundamental skills for downhill MTB. They will be covering body positioning, braking, cornering and pumping, as well as covering all safety skills, giving students the confidence to push their comfort zones.
*Riders should be confident riding Sidewinder or Flow to join this clinic.
**The clinic will start/finish at Valley Terminal on the grass near the Merritts gondola.
Advanced Race Focus Clinic (Date TBC): Girls in the Advanced Race Focus Clinic will come away with more advanced skills, starting the weekend off with essential on-bike skills to make sure all the girls have fundamental skills covered, then moving onto more advanced skills. These include rock gardens, technical sections and how to properly position themselves in different sections of trails, line choice, jumping, cornering and pumping, as well as race-focused skills and tips from Sian’s own experience.
*Riders should be confident riding Cannonball to join this clinic.
**The clinic will start/finish at Valley Terminal on the grass near the Merritts gondola.
The clinics will be held at Thredbo Resort and participants must have a valid lift pass. Students will return to school after the clinics by 3:30pm.
Students must be of a suitable level to participate in these clinics. Places are limited to six students per clinic to allow for high quality coaching by Sian herself. Students are encouraged to enrol as soon as possible to avoid missing out. Please contact Mr Armstead on josh.armstead@smgs.nsw.edu.au for additional information.
