2022 NSW/ACT/QLD State Interschools Snowsport Championships – Day 4 & 5

Interschools returned to the mountains this week in spectacular fashion as students from across NSW, ACT and QLD competed for a trip Nationals in one-weeks time.

The 5-Day event saw our students compete across almost every category and division.

The week culminated with SMGS taking out the Primary Overall Points Score for the first time in the School’s history, the Secondary Overall Points Score and the Amelia Memorial Award, which is presented every year to the winning Alpine Division 1 Female team.

SMGS Director of Sport, Mr Martin Philpott, said of this year’s States campaign, “What a great week of racing! Congratulations to all competitors. Seeing the SMGS team spirit back in action on the slopes was wonderful. Thank you to all students, parents and teachers involved in such a successful week.”

First-year snowsports competitor, Year 2 student Sofia was very happy to be out on the race course, saying, “I loved going down the mountain so freely. No one tells you to slow down. Having so many races on the same day was hard, and I had to change my Snowboard boots over to ski boots on the mountain! I loved seeing all my friends. We had so much fun!”

The final two days of competition saw many Year 12 students heading to the start gates of their final State Interschools. These young men and women have been exceptional role models for our younger students. They have represented the School with pride and enthusiasm in every snowsports event they have participated in over their school life.

We wish all our students the best of luck in their preparations for Nationals, which begin on Tuesday, 6 September 2022, at Perisher Resort.
