Snowy Mountains Grammar School offers a limited number of Scholarships in the Senior School that are made available each year to students commencing in Years 7 to 11. Scholarships for Senior School students commencing in Years 7 to 11 are offered for the duration of a student’s remaining years at Snowy Mountains Grammar School until completion of Year 12.

ACER Scholarship Examination Registrations are now open!
 
Examinations for Years 7 to 11 Academic Excellence Scholarships will be held at Snowy Mountains Grammar School on the morning of Saturday 27 February 2021.
 
ACER registrations close at midnight AEDST on Monday 8 February 2021. An application fee of $95 is required when registering with ACER. Applicants are required to register online at https://www.acer.edu.au/scholarship through the ACER website before the closing date.
 
The examination starts at 9:00 am and finishes at 12:00 pm. We ask that all examination writers report to the SMGS front office by 8:45 am on Saturday 27 February 2021.

Academic and General Excellence Scholarships

Academic Excellence Scholarships
Year 7 to Year 11

Academic Year: 2022
Open To: Years 7 to 11
Status: OPENING SOON
Closing Date: TBC

Open to new and current students entering Year 7 to Year 11 offering a limited number of scholarships providing up to 50% remission of academic tuition fees for up to a six-year period, subject to annual review.

  • All applicants are required to complete the external ACER Scholarship Tests (see below for further information). The ACER Scholarship Tests was held at Snowy Mountains Grammar School in February 2021.
  • Applicants are required to provide their most recent 3 Semester School Reports (18 months), most recent NAPLAN results and may include external testing competition results (e.g. ICAS or equivalent) or other supporting relevant documentation.
  • Applicants should include a cover letter outlining suitability to be considered for the scholarship (max. 350 words).
  • All shortlisted applicants will be required to meet with the Principal.

General Excellence Merit Scholarships
Year 7 to Year 11

Open to new and current students entering Year 7 to Year 11 offering a limited number of scholarships providing up to 40% remission of academic tuition fees for a six-year period, subject to annual review. Merit Scholarships are for areas of general excellence including sporting, musical/vocal performance as well as involvement in a wide range of other relevant activities including public speaking, debating, drama or art.

  • Applicants must: 
    – Be performing at a very high level in relevant (to SMGS) sports, in at least one sport (participating at national level) or multiple sports (if at a lower level) and provide details, including substantiation if required; or
    – Be actively involved in learning an instrument/voice, demonstrating a commitment to further development, such as receiving lessons, regular practice and undertaking AMEB examinations or equivalent. Inclusion of a video (max 5 minutes) of one solo performance piece in their instrument/vocal area of specialisation is required.
  • Applicants are required to provide:
    – Their most recent 2 Semester School Reports (12 months), demonstrating a strong commitment to academic
       learning; and
    – Their most recent NAPLAN results.
  • Applicants may choose to provide any additional external testing competition results (e.g. ICAS, or equivalent) or other supporting relevant academic documentation.
  • All applicants should include a cover letter outlining suitability to be considered for the scholarship (max. 350 words).
  • All shortlisted applicants will be required to meet with the Principal.

Snowy Monaro Region Community Merit Scholarship
2022

Academic Year: 2022
Open To: Years 7 to 11
Status: OPENING SOON
Closing Date: TBC

This is awarded to a student entering Years 7 to 11 who demonstrates outstanding commitment to their chosen area of excellence and is already pursuing this with great determination, passion and commitment.

This can be in academic excellence or in general excellence areas. This scholarship provides up to 100% remission of the tuition fee for up to a six-year period, subject to annual renewal. This scholarship is available to be awarded to a student currently residing in the local Monaro region and not a current SMGS student.

  • Applicants must be performing at a very high level (i.e: national level or equivalent) in their chosen activity in an area relevant to SMGS
  • Applicants are required to provide their most recent 2 Semester School Reports (12 months), most recent NAPLAN results
  • Applicants should include a cover letter outlining why they would like to be considered for the scholarship (max. 600 words)
  • Parents may be required to provide some relevant financial evidence to support the application criteria
  • All shortlisted applicants will be required to meet with the Principal

BCEF (Bush Children’s Education Foundation of NSW)

The Bush Children’s Education Foundation of NSW Inc. (BCEF) was established in 1965, and has provided financial assistance to thousands of young people in the bush whose educational opportunities are limited due to isolation and economic circumstances.
