SMGS Junior School NAIDOC week artwork is currently on display in the Snowy Region Visitor Centre.
The Kindergarten and Year 1 students’ “Line Artworks” were inspired by the Aboriginal artist Judy Watson Napangardi and her work, “Hair String”.
The kindergarten and Year 1 students also explored the Dreamtime story of the “Rainbow Serpent” and created contemporary dot technique artworks inspired by snakes.
Year 4 explored using traditional tools and symbolism to create their contemporary Aboriginal inspired paintings. Animals were a favourite subject.
Year 5 and 6 discovered using traditional tools and symbolism to create their contemporary Aboriginal inspired paintings. The students used handprints in their artwork. These are a common symbol in Aboriginal art to represent the idea of community.
Make sure you visit the display at the Snowy Region Visitor centre this weekend before the end of NAIDOC week tomorrow.
