Dear Parents and Friends of Snowy Mountains Grammar School,

We would like to thank you all for a great start to 2018. We started the year with welcome drinks in late January for all parents but especially to welcome new parents to the school community. We recently enjoyed a successful bush dance in March which is in its third year.  The turnout for the dance was unexpectedly impressive, with families and children from not only our own school community but from the wider Jindabyne community, and even stretching to some visiting tourists who have promised to make it back next year. We made a modest profit from the bush dance which would not have been possible without the generous assistance of our P and F committee and extended school families.

We are now heading rapidly towards the SMIEC (Snowy Mountains Interschools Equestrian Competition) event, running from Saturday 28th April to Tuesday 1st May. This event in previous years has been our most successful fundraiser. Our plan is to use these funds to contribute towards a new BBQ area for the school which is hoped to be completed this year.

“What can I do to help?”

  1. Offer your time…we will need at least 5-8 people to staff the canteen at any given time over the four days, from 7am to 5pm. To give some structure to the volunteering, we have allocated shifts spread over the day so we don’t have all on one day and none on another. There will be 5 shifts each day: 7am-10am, 9am-12pm, 10am-2pm, 12pm-3pm, 2pm-5pm Saturday, Sunday, Monday and Tuesday. If you are able to help, please just choose a time slot any time over the four days and email us with your time/day. It would involve helping our friendly P and F members on the BBQ, making coffees, selling baked goods and merchandise. Any time that you offer will be greatly appreciated and will assist the P and F in their goal to build a permanent BBQ area within the school. We have broken down the days into three-hour slots, so helping with one of those is appreciated and if you are able to spend half a day or a whole day that would be amazing!

  1. If you are not able to help out with your time, maybe donating some baked goods to sell at our stall is how you could contribute. Our only request is that the baked goods have the ingredients clearly written on a label. If you plan on donating baked goods, it would be preferable if you could bring them directly to SMIEC over the four-day period.

“….but I don’t have anything to do with horses!” I hear you say…

Well, neither do some of us! However, we are a part of the SMGS school community and are keen to support the school in our biggest fundraiser for the year.

We would like to take this opportunity to optimistically thank you all for your support and we hope to see some of you during the event!

Think … fresh air, coffees, friendly parents and P and F people … it’ll be fun!

Thanks again and kind regards,

P and F Committee
