Competitors were presented with wet and wild conditions in the 2016 Scots Race at Perisher today. There were some brave and determined faces on the mountain today as students were lashed by everything that mother nature could throw at them. With the adverse weather conditions, the event schedule was reduced, giving athletes just one run to show what they could do.
Alex Dickson, who took out the 1st place in the Division 1 Male division, was happy to be back in action.
“The weather was challenging today but it was worth the trip up. It’s good to be back home and racing.”
Alex, who trained and competed in North America and Europe over summer, also took away a silver medal at the Youth Olympic Games in snowboard-cross.
Year 10 student, Tamara Cowley, was similarly cautious in the difficult conditions:
“You had to be really careful today. In snow conditions like that, any wrong movement was enough to slow you down.”
Even with the challenging conditions, SMGS athletes provided another dominant performance.

Well done today Team SMGS with another successful day on the hill. We’d also like to make a special mention of our parent supporters, many who braved the conditions on the hill. The support you show your kids is wonderful, and we know they appreciate it.
Looking forward to another successful day on the hill tomorrow for the Redlands Cup at Thredbo.
