IT Officer
Snowy Mountains Grammar School is seeking a dynamic and technically-minded and detail-oriented IT Officer to join our Support team in 2022.

Salary: | Dependent on experience and qualifications and in accordance with the Multi Enterprise Agreement 2021. |

Under the direction of the IT Manager, the IT Officer is responsible for providing first level technical support to staff and students while providing day-to-day management oversight of the School’s technology infrastructure to ensure effective and efficient technology services are provided to the whole school community.
Personal and Professional Characteristics
As the first point of contact, the IT Officer needs to be approachable and able to build effective relationships with the school community. Strong and effective communication is imperative. The ability to quickly problem-solve issues across a diverse range of technologies is critical. Maintaining a pragmatic, agile approach to support and being able to prioritise autonomously is essential.
Strong organisational skills as well as the ability to follow instruction and work to deadlines are important as are the ability to accurately maintain registers and documentation.
Integrity, honesty and an ability to maintain confidentiality is essential.
Key Responsibilities
1 – General Support
- Provide first level support for:
- all staff issued devices
- student BYODT devices including hardware and software troubleshooting
- school issued and managed iPads and accessories
- Assist teachers in classroom environments with technology infrastructure training and immediate trouble shooting support
- Assist families with accessing and using school systems such as the Learning Management System (Canvas) and other Applications used for regular teacher-student-parent communication
- Facilitate and manage support requests including escalation and delegation of requests while maintaining communication with end users through the IT Service Desk
- Liaise with third-party support providers as required
- Provide support as directed by the IT Manager
2 – Software and Systems
- Provision new users as required including system access for staff and students
- Facilitate IT induction and training for all staff and students
- Manage departing student and staff accounts including archive of data as required
- Maintain and report on print controls and usage for staff and students
- Manage allocation of software licenses
- Manage deployment of apps and configuration to school managed iPads as required
- Proactively monitor network and software security infrastructure and work to resolve or escalate any identified issues
- Deploy, monitor and maintain anti-virus infrastructure
3 – Hardware and Infrastructure
- Regular review and maintenance of classroom technology including screens, audio and device connectivity
- Installation and configuration of hardware in classrooms
- Configure and deploy new school-managed hardware
- Monitor performance of network infrastructure including WiFi and internet usage
- Monitor and update network usage controls as required
- Monitor and maintain data backups
- Manage student loan devices and maintain records of use
- Manage staff loan equipment and maintain records of use
- Monitor and maintain Microsoft Azure cloud infrastructure
- Ongoing maintenance of campus phone system
- Support and management of key and electronic access systems
- General support and patch management of on-premise infrastructure
- Maintain records for all school hardware including staff devices, on-premise infrastructure and peripherals including asset management, storage and replacement lifecycles
- Monitor and maintain printer and copier infrastructure
- Regular maintenance of security camera infrastructure
- Ensure that all school technology is consistently in good working order
4 – Miscellaneous
- Remain current with relevant contemporary technical/educational issues
- Undertake professional learning in consultation with the IT Manager
- Report on all support matters to the IT Manager and Business Manager as required
- Adhere to the SMGS Staff Code of Conduct, Child Protection Policy and employment contract
- Carry out any other additional duties as required

Desirable Skills, Qualifications & Training
Desirable Skills
Knowledge and practical experience in the following areas is desirable:
- Desktop operating systems including Windows and macOS.
- Mobile operating systems including iOS/iPadOS/tvOS and Android.
- Deploying and supporting Apple devices in a controlled environment including Apple iPads and Apple TV’s using device management software. Experience with JAMF Pro is an advantage.
- Apple School Manager and Classroom.
- Windows Server environment including Windows Server 2016 – 2019.
- Microsoft System Centre Data Protection Manager or Microsoft Azure Backup Server.
- Network content management solutions. Experience with the CyberHound appliance is an advantage.
- Physical network configuration and support. Experience with Fibre network support and maintenance is an advantage.
- Wireless network configuration, support and maintenance. Experience with Cisco Meraki is an advantage.
- Microsoft 365 productivity suite including Office365, OneDrive and SharePoint Online.
- Microsoft Azure cloud.
- Creation of training resources and execution of professional development initiatives.
Desirable Qualifications & Experience
Ideally, the IT Support Officer will already have or currently be engaged in a relevant qualification of IT-based skills at a recognised university or TAFE institution. Some applied industry experience is highly desirable.
