Celebrating 100 Days of Kindergarten at Snowy Mountains Grammar School

A Milestone Worth Celebrating

This term, Kindergarten reached a milestone worth celebrating, as the students marked their first 100 days of school. The occasion was embraced with the special theme, ‘When I Grow Up’, and students arrived dressed as the people they aspire to be. There were future vets, singers, farmers, and even a mini Mrs Rigg, filling the room with colour, excitement and anticipation of the day ahead.

Engaging Activities Around the Number 100

The day began with a story that captured the significance of reaching 100 days at school, setting the tone for a program of engaging and hands-on activities, all linked to the number 100. Students rotated through:

100-cake artworks filled with creativity and colour

  • 100-monster maths sparking imagination and problem-solving
  • STEM challenges building 100 structures with different materials
  • Creative writing tasks inspired by the number 100
  • A lively 100-movement break encouraging teamwork and energy
  • Roll to 100, a playful way to practise number skills

These activities combined fun with meaningful learning, allowing students to collaborate, create, and reflect on their progress so far.

Reflecting on Growth and Looking Ahead

Mid-morning, students enjoyed a sunny picnic before writing reflective — and often humorous — pieces imagining life at 100 years old. The responses were thoughtful, whimsical, and a wonderful glimpse into the minds of our young learners.

The afternoon brought even more excitement with a school-wide scavenger hunt to discover 100 hidden items. Working in teams, students encouraged one another until every item was found. Back in the classroom, they decorated crowns and photo frames featuring their “When I Grow Up” costumes, creating keepsakes for families to treasure.

More Than Just a Celebration

The 100 Days of Kindergarten celebration was more than a day of fun. It provided an opportunity for students to:

  • Reflect on how far they’ve come since the start of the year
  • Work together towards shared goals
  • Celebrate their growth, confidence, and creativity
  • Imagine the possibilities for the future

As crowns went home and the last picnic crumbs were swept away, the classroom buzzed with chatter about what the next 100 days might bring. If the first hundred is any indication, our Kindergarten students have an exciting journey ahead.
