Last week, Stage 5 Commerce students at Snowy Mountains Grammar School stepped into the shoes of entrepreneurs as they presented their innovative business ideas in a Shark Tank-style assessment task. Designed to simulate a real-world business pitch, the task required students to develop and present a comprehensive proposal to a panel of guest investors.

The classroom was transformed into a high-energy business hub, with each student team delivering a professional pitch that highlighted their marketing strategy, financial planning, and persuasive skills. From clever branding to budgeting and risk management, the event showcased the depth of learning and creative thinking taking place in Commerce this term.
“This assessment is always a highlight of the year,” said Miss Mariah Dhar, Commerce Teacher. “It’s incredible to see students step out of their comfort zones and bring their ideas to life with such passion and professionalism. The Shark Tank format gives them a real taste of the business world — and they absolutely rose to the challenge.”
The day was a celebration of creativity, collaboration and critical thinking — all essential skills for success in today’s fast-paced world of business and innovation.
Congratulations to the following teams who secured investment on the day:
- Reflecta – Emma, Rome, Phoebe, Charlotte and Gretchen
- DreamScape – Tor, Finlay, Sid, Will, Jules and Lukas
- Scribble – Emily, Sammy, Tahlia, Lily and Ava
A special thank you goes to our panel of Sharks for sharing their time, expertise and encouragement:

Initiatives like this are an important part of real-world learning at SMGS, empowering students to develop transferable skills in communication, leadership, innovation and financial literacy. We are incredibly proud of our future entrepreneurs — we can’t wait to see what they do next!
