Snowy Mountains Grammar School offers a limited number of scholarships and bursaries each year for students entering Years 7 to 11, recognising excellence and supporting students who will make a meaningful contribution to the life of the school or who may not otherwise be able to join our learning community.

Snowy Monaro Community Scholarships

Snowy Mountains Grammar School is excited to offer students in the local community the opportunity to apply for one of our Community Scholarships.

Snowy Monaro Community Excellence Scholarship.
Who Can Apply: Students entering Year 7-10 in 2027* who show outstanding achievement and commitment to their community.

Snowy Monaro Community Citizenship Scholarship.
Who Can Apply: Students entering 7-10 in 2027* who demonstrate leadership, citizenship and service in their school or community.

2027 Community Scholarship Applications are now open and close on 30 June 2026. 

* Successful candidates will be offered the opportunity to commence at Snowy Mountains Grammar School as early as Term 3 2026. 

Scholarships

Remission:
Between 25% and 50% remission of the annual Boarding Fee, dependent on merit, personal character and alignment with the values of Snowy Mountains Grammar School. Normal tuition fees apply.

Overview:
The Year 7 Boarding Scholarship is offered for 2026 entry, in recognition of the expanded opportunities provided through the opening of our new boarding house. This scholarship is designed to support students who will thrive in a residential learning environment and contribute positively to the life of the School.

The successful applicant will demonstrate academic effort, leadership potential, and a strong sense of community. They will embody the Snowy Mountains Grammar School values of Courage, Authenticity, Respect and Empathy, and be eager to make the most of the opportunities offered through our unique learning and boarding environment in the Snowy Mountains.

Who can apply:
Applicants must meet the following requirements for an application to be processed:

  • Be entering Year 7 in 2026.
  • Intend to enrol as a full-time or weekly boarder.
  • Demonstrate a sound academic record and positive school engagement.
  • Exhibit qualities of leadership, initiative and community-mindedness.

Applicants must submit:
Applicants are required to submit the following for an application to be processed:

  • Most recent NAPLAN results (additional years preferred).
  • The two most recent full school reports (with teacher comments).
  • A brief summary of co-curricular or community involvement.
  • A cover letter written by the student (max. 2 pages) outlining:
    • Why they wish to board at Snowy Mountains Grammar School
    • How they demonstrate the Snowy Mountains Grammar School values
    • How they will contribute to the boarding and school community
  • A reference from a current teacher, principal or community leader.

External testing:
Not required.

Interview:
Shortlisted applicants will be invited to an interview with the Principal.

Remission:
Between 10% and 50% remission of the annual Tuition Fee dependent on academic performance in the ACER test and review of other documents supporting academic performance.

Applicants must submit:
Applicants are required to submit the following for an application to be processed:

  • Most recent NAPLAN results (additional years preferred).
  • ICAS results if Distinction or High Distinction (other external academic competitions may be included).
  • The two most recent full school reports (which have teacher comments).
  • Any other supporting academic-related documentation.
  • A cover letter written by the student, outlining interest in the scholarship and, if not yet a student at Snowy Mountains Grammar School, why they are interested in attending the School – max. 2 pages.

Note: ACER results are sent both to the School and the parent by ACER and are not therefore required to be provided by the parent.

External testing:
ACER Scholarship Test (required). Students must register via ACER and sit the test on Saturday 28 February 2026. Registrations for the ACER Scholarship Test close on Sunday 8 February 2026. Register for the ACER Scholarship test here: https://www.acer.org/au/scholarship

Interview:
Students shortlisted based on academic performance will be invited for an interview with the Principal.

Status:
Closed.

Remission:
Between 10% and 40% remission of the annual Tuition Fee, dependent on meritorious performance and review of other documents supporting excellence in the chosen area/s of performance relevant to Snowy Mountains Grammar School.

Areas of merit:
Applicants are welcome to apply in areas relevant to the Snowy Mountains Grammar School co-curricular program.

Applicants must submit:
Applicants are required to submit the following for an application to be processed:

  • List of relevant performance results in the chosen areas of interest. Provide an overall summary page/s of major event results. Also include evidence to verify the results via a web page link or scanned document.
  • Most recent NAPLAN results (additional years preferred).
  • ICAS results if Credit, Distinction or High Distinction.
  • The two most recent full school reports (which have teacher comments).
  • Any other supporting Merit-related documentation.
  • A cover letter written by the student only, outlining interest in the scholarship and, if not yet a student at Snowy Mountains Grammar School, why they are interested in attending the School – max. 2 pages.

External testing:
Not required.

Interview:
Students shortlisted based on overall meritorious performance will be invited for an interview with the Principal.

Status:
Open. Closes 30 June 2026.

Remission:
Between 10% and 40% remission of the annual Tuition Fee, dependent on meritorious performance and review of other documents supporting excellence in the chosen area/s of relevant performance to Snowy Mountains Grammar School.

Areas of merit:
Applicants are welcome to apply in areas relevant to the SMGS Music & Arts Program. Identified areas are:

  • Strings
  • Vocal
  • Brass/Woodwind
  • Keyboard/Piano
  • Percussion
  • Contemporary Music
  • Drama
  • Visual Arts

Applicants must submit:
Applicants are required to submit the following for an application to be processed:

  • Summary of the level of achievement in the area of Music/Drama involved, including any examinations sat and results attained.
  • A digital link that shows two performances to demonstrate the level of proficiency (Music and Drama only).
  • Visual Arts applicants should submit a relevant digital portfolio of original works.
  • Most recent NAPLAN results (additional years preferred).
  • ICAS results if applicable – Credit, Distinction or High Distinction.
  • The two most recent full school reports (which have teacher comments).
  • A cover letter written by the student only, outlining interest in the scholarship and, if not yet a student at Snowy Mountains Grammar School, why they are interested in attending the School – max. 2 pages.

External testing:
Not required.

Interview:
Students shortlisted based on overall performance will be invited for an interview and where relevant, an audition.

Status:
Open. Closes 30 June 2026.

Remission:
Up to 90% remission of the annual Tuition Fee dependent on the level of outstanding performance, and review of other documents supporting excellence in the chosen area/s of relevant performance to Snowy Mountains Grammar School. This does not include boarding fees, if applicable. This Scholarship aims to enable enrollment of an outstanding student (new or continued) who could otherwise not attend or remain at Snowy Mountains Grammar School.

Areas of merit:
It is anticipated the successful applicant will demonstrate excellence in a relevant chosen field, as well as show clear evidence of dedication and commitment for at least the most recent three years and that they will make a significant contribution to the life of the School.

Applicants must submit:
Applicants are required to submit the following for an application to be processed:

  • List of relevant performance results in the chosen areas of interest nominated for application. Please provide an overall summary page/s of significant results. Also include evidence to verify the results via a web page link or scanned documents.
  • Most recent NAPLAN results (additional years preferred).
  • ICAS results at Credit, Distinction or High Distinction levels if applying on an Academic basis.
  • The two most recent full school reports (which have teacher comments).
  • Any other supporting documentation.
  • A cover letter written by the student only, outlining interest in the scholarship and, if not yet a student at Snowy Mountains Grammar School, why they are interested in attending the School – max. 3 pages.

External testing:
Not required.

Interview:
Students shortlisted based on meritorious performance will be invited for an interview with the Principal.

Status:
Open. Closes 30 June 2026.

Remission:
Up to 90% remission of the annual Tuition Fee dependent on community engagement, with review of other documents supporting the application. This does not include Boarding fees, if applicable. This Scholarship aims to enable enrollment of an outstanding student (new or continued) who could otherwise not attend or remain at Snowy Mountains Grammar School.

Areas of merit:
It is anticipated the successful applicant will demonstrate a high level of participation and engagement in the areas of service and citizenship in the School and wider community.

Applicants must submit:
Applicants are required to submit the following for an application to be processed:

  • List relevant community contributions in your school and wider community of some significance, including volunteer work and how you have helped others.
  • Most recent NAPLAN results (additional years preferred).
  • ICAS results at Credit, Distinction or High Distinction.
  • The two most recent full school reports (which have teacher comments).
  • Any other supporting documentation.
  • A cover letter written by the student only, outlining interest in the scholarship and, if not yet a student at Snowy Mountains Grammar School, why they are interested in attending the School – max. 3 pages.

External testing:
Not required.

Interview:
Students shortlisted based on community citizenship, participation and engagement will be invited for an interview with the Principal.

Status:
Open. Closes 30 June 2026.

Remission:
Either 15%, 25% or 50% remission of the annual Tuition Fee dependent on academic performance and review of active involvement in Science & Technology-related learning supporting overall academic performance. Those demonstrating innovation in this field are also encouraged to apply.

Who can apply:
This scholarship is for a Year 11/12 student intent on pursuing a career in science, medical or technology fields.

Applicants must submit:
Applicants are required to submit the following for an application to be processed:

  • Active areas of involvement in Science and/or Technology learning of some significance that demonstrates a passion and advancement in learning (which may include excellence and/or innovation).
  • Most recent NAPLAN results (additional years preferred).
  • ICAS results in Science & Technology (if completed) (other areas welcomed).
  • The two most recent full school reports (which have teacher comments).
  • Any other supporting academic-related documentation.
  • A cover letter written by the student only, outlining interest in the scholarship and, if not yet a student at Snowy Mountains Grammar School, why they are interested in attending the School, and this scholarship area – max. 2 pages.

External testing:
Not required.

Interview:
Students shortlisted will be invited for an interview with the Principal.

Status:
Open. Closes 30 June 2026.

Means-Tested Bursaries

Remission:
Day students only: Up to 40% remission of the Tuition Fee.
Boarding students only: Up to 50% remission of the Full-Time / Weekly Boarding Fee, with normal Tuition Fees to apply. (Students remain eligible for other scholarship applications.)

Who can apply:
Students entering Years 7 – 11 in 2027 whose families are engaged in primary agricultural production and require financial assistance.

Areas of merit:
Applicants should be in a situation that, without the support of the Bursary, they could not otherwise come to Snowy Mountains Grammar School or continue to remain at Snowy Mountains Grammar School in the day and/or boarding environment.

Means test:
Awarding this Bursary will be conditional on a means test of financial information  provided in confidence to the Business Manager.

Applicants must submit:
Applicants are required to submit the following for an application to be processed:

  • Application form (by request through the Enrolment Officer) and financial information (for means testing). Please contact the Enrolment Officer on [email protected] or on +61 2 6457 1022.
  • A confidential cover letter written by eligible parents, outlining the need for a Rural Farming Bursary, or, this may be communicated in person at a scheduled meeting at the School with the Principal and Business Manager. (Financial information will be requested in confidence as part of this process).
  • Any other supporting documentation.
  • Outline of any working contribution on the property during school holiday periods by the student enrolled / to be enrolled.

External testing:
Not required.

Interview:
The Principal or Business Manager will make contact directly with the parents. Students will not be involved in this process, other than the usual interview for enrollment with the Principal.

Status:
Open. Closes on 30 June 2026.

Remission:
Boarding students only: Up to 50% remission of the Full-Time / Weekly Boarding Fee with normal Tuition fees to apply.

Who can apply:
Boarding students entering Years 7 – 11 in 2027 whose families require financial assistance to access boarding.

Areas of merit:
Applicants should be in a situation that, without the support of the Bursary, they could not otherwise come to Snowy Mountains Grammar School in the boarding environment.

Means test:
Awarding this Bursary will be conditional on a means test of financial information provided in confidence to the Business Manager.

Applicants must submit:
Applicants are required to submit the following for an application to be processed:
