Academies of Excellence

//Academies of Excellence

Education in the 21st Century is on an exciting journey.

The world is rapidly evolving at a faster rate than ever before in so many ways. There are strong predictions that the majority of those in our Junior School will enter jobs that currently do not even exist yet. We are preparing our students for a future not as we know it now.

SMGS has introduced a program called the Academies of Excellence, an innovative educational elective program available to students from Year 7 onwards. The program is designed to inspire and engage students in their choice of a broad range of interests and opportunities. It is imperative that students have opportunities to experience a range of subjects and in this program students can elect to try a new elective each term, semester, year or continue for several years. Excellence can be attained when students remain with a program over a longer period.

The various options within the Excellence program, listed below, include numerous programs within each of the academies:

  • Academy of Creative & Performing Arts
  • Academy of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM)
  • Academy of Exercise Science and Sporting Performance
  • Academy of Literature, Research and Social Sustainability

With credible research demonstrating that students in education across the globe are disengaging from learning and school, at Snowy Mountains Grammar School we are heading in the opposite direction and engaging students in areas in which they love to learn. In addition, our students also learn the full complement of the rigorous Australian Curriculum administered through NSW Education Standards Authority (NESA) and successfully complete the Higher School Certificate in Year 12.

Click on the link below, where we invite you to explore our elective courses for students in Years 7 to 10, with Years 11 and 12 able to choose a course in addition to their HSC suite of subjects as an option.
