Outdoor Education

Sometimes We Need to Venture Out to Venture Within

"It is not the mountain we conquer, but ourselves."

– Mountaineer, Sir Edmund Hillary

Our carefully designed Outdoor Education Program is a journey to self-discovery, personal growth and learning in the most authentic classroom of them all – the great outdoors.

The Outdoor Education Journey

Outdoor Education is a key part of our students’ learning journey. Our program provides learning experiences that can’t be created in the classroom, and it is so much more than navigating with maps and pitching tents (though those are fun parts)!

We believe that outdoor learning helps shape confident, empathetic, resilient and resourceful young people who are ready to navigate life’s challenges with integrity and determination.

Outdoor Education

Our Vision

Teamwork

Teamwork is learned when you realise you can’t build and paddle the raft on your own.

Resilience

Resilience is built when you take in hard-earned views from the mountain summit that once seemed impossible.

Bravery

Bravery is found when you are tied into the abseil line at the top of a cliff.

Communication

Communication under pressure is sharpened as you negotiate white water rapids with your canoe partner.

Outdoor Education Opportunities

Outdoor Education encourages students to test what they think they’re capable of.  It is where students form lifelong friendships and find a deeper sense of belonging in our world.

Outdoor Education is offered through a range of opportunities:

Year Level Camps – These are compulsory camp programs that run each year from Kindergarten to Year 10. Each camp has a theme and is a shared experience that fosters community within each year group.

Outdoor Education Elective – Available to Years 9 and 10, this elective focuses on developing a broad range of outdoor skills and understandings including map and GPS navigation, risk awareness and management, group safety and First Aid, motivations for outdoor activities, bushcraft and conservation.

For more details about this Elective, please visit the Middle School and Senior School pages.

The Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award – This internationally recognised award is offered as a co-curricular opportunity and has a very strong following. Students are challenged to demonstrate self-motivation and commitment as they complete components including Physical Recreation, Skills, Voluntary Service and an Adventurous Journey.

For more information, please view The Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award.

These opportunities not only foster practical skills but personal growth, leadership and a deeper connection with our natural environment.
