Develop your knowledge of aviation through a combination of classroom theory and practical flight training. Students can work towards a Recreational Pilot Certificate (RPC) through the Recreational Aviation Australia pathway, learning the principles of flight, aircraft operations, navigation and aviation safety. Practical flying lessons are delivered by experienced instructors, while online learning provides interactive theory modules, quizzes and assessments.
Students also have the opportunity to pursue drone pilot qualifications through the Remote Pilot Licence (RePL).
This course provides a strong foundation for students interested in recreational flying, drone operations or future careers in the aviation industry.
Topic 1: Recreational Pilot Certificate (RPC)
Our RPL program follows the RA-Aus pathway of Australia’s largest sport aviation organisation as an excellent stepping stone to a career in aviation or to attain a qualification for recreational flying.
Snowy Mountains Grammar School uses the GoFly curriculum and learning management system, directly accessed from their website. This requires a subscription to access all the content, including many instructional videos, quizzes and tests to assess knowledge and theoretical competency, prior to practical lessons.
The annual fee is $199.00 for students, with the alternative option of $19.90 per month remaining available.
Both options result in Premium level course access (this is required, as the Basic level is not sufficient). All Aviation students will need to access this resource for their theory content in order to be part of the Aviation program at Snowy Mountains Grammar School.
Students book and pay for Flying lessons through Alpine Aviation Australia with Mr Martin Hughes, the Chief Flying Instructor. Prior to commencing practical lessons, all students must have demonstrated theoretical competencies in particular areas as part of their coursework progression.
Please note there is no requirement or obligation for a student to undertake flying training in SMGS’s Aviation Academy. Students can work on the theory components only if they wish.
Topic 2: Remote Pilot License (RePL)
Students also have an opportunity as part of the program to get drone pilot qualifications. This can be completed in addition to the Recreational Pilot Certificate (RPC) qualification. Students will study the core content in as part of the aviation pathway to achieve their Remote Pilot Licence (RePL). Students will have access to course content from a leading external provider to ensure their qualifications comply with all CASA standards.
