Overview
Business Studies investigates the role, operation and management of businesses within our society. Factors in the establishment, operation and management of a small business are integral to the Year 11 course. For the HSC course, students investigate the role of global businesses and examine the interconnections between the business functions of marketing, finance, operations and human resources. Students develop research and independent learning skills in addition to analytical and problem-solving competencies through their studies.
HSC Assessment Structure
Business Studies is a 2-unit course in both Year 11 and Year 12. The Year 11 course consists of three assessment tasks. The Year 12 course consists of four assessment tasks, one of which is the Trial HSC Examination.
Career Paths
The Business Studies course provides an excellent foundation for tertiary study in business-related fields such as management, accounting, marketing, information systems, merchant banking, finance and securities analysis, business law, human resource management and industrial relations.

Business Studies suits students with a general interest in business and commerce, and those considering starting their own business. There are no specific skills needed to begin the course; the skills necessary to do well are developed along the way.
