Overview
Drama is an art form that explores the world through enactment. In the new Drama syllabus, Students become informed dramatic practitioners through making, performing and critically reflecting. They develop skills in interpretation, communication, collaboration, performance and analysis while exploring dramatic forms, styles and theatre practices from Australia and beyond.
HSC Assessment Structure
Year 11 assessment consists of three tasks that balance practical and theoretical learning through the interconnected practices of Making, Performing and Critically Reflecting. Year 12 school-based assessment consists of four tasks. In the HSC, students complete a Written Examination consisting of two papers (40%), an Ensemble Performance (30%) and an Individual Project (30%). Students may choose to undertake their Individual Project in Performance, Scriptwriting, Short Film, Director’s Folio, Costume Design, Promotion Design or Set Design.
Career Paths
Students develop highly transferable skills in collaboration, creativity, communication, problem-solving and critical thinking. Pathways include acting, directing, scriptwriting, design, film, media, communications, events management, arts administration and the wider creative industries.
Skills Required
Students should have an interest in performance, creativity and storytelling, and be willing to work collaboratively with others. Strong communication skills, commitment to teamwork and a willingness to participate in rehearsals are important. Students should also be prepared to undertake independent research, and commit to after-school rehearsals when required.
