Mrs Susan Plum
Head of Human Society and Its Environment (HSIE)

Mrs Susan Plum arrived at Snowy Mountains Grammar School in February 2016, ready to commence a new era in her professional career.

What many may not know is that Susan was previously a practising lawyer for almost a decade in Sydney before seamlessly moving into the education profession. After teaching at two independent schools in the greater Sydney area, Susan decided to relocate to the Snowy Mountains and, very fortunately for us, chose our School.

Susan became Head of the Human Society and Its Environment (HSIE) Faculty, expertly leading a diverse and growing faculty and providing countless students with opportunities to discover and pursue subjects within this important area of learning.

In Legal Studies particularly, Susan has led an extraordinary record of student achievement. On a per capita basis, her students have achieved an exceptional number of Band 6 results, reflecting her expertise and capability as both a teacher and leader. Her contribution extends well beyond Legal Studies, having also taught Business Studies, Geography, Commerce, Modern History and History.

Perhaps Susan’s greatest and most enduring contribution, however, is the impact she has had on her students. Her deep care and personal support, expert knowledge and unwavering encouragement have helped generations of students achieve success in her classroom and beyond.

This is evidenced by the long line of graduates who seek Susan out at the end of their Year 12 studies. At that point, many fully appreciate just how much she has invested in them and how meaningfully she has contributed to their own accomplishments and success, not only at School but in the lives they take forward with them.

The heartfelt thanks and gratitude they offer Susan are perhaps the greatest testament to everything she has given as an educator.

Susan, you are a dedicated teacher and a credit to the profession. We are extremely fortunate to have you as part of Snowy Mountains Grammar School.

Congratulations, Susan, and thank you for ten years of outstanding service to our School and its students.
